The Role

We are growing rapidly, and have created this position to play a key role as our organization grows and becomes more complex. As a key member of the senior management team, you’ll report directly to the President/CTO with matrixed reporting to the Board of Directors. You’ll provide the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the company has proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, people procedures and financial reporting/analysis to effectively grow the organization while ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency. To do this, you will be responsible for overall operations, including the management of many departments, the quality program, the delivery of services, the execution of strategic plans, and overall customer satisfaction.

Your key goals will fall into a few categories:
  • Assess the work we are doing and the way that it is currently managed, and assess the pipeline of projects to determine the workflow, structure, and process needs that will allow us to continue to grow in a sustainable way.
  • Help to fully populate departments, set structure and accountability, and ensure each person has clearly identified goals.

We’re not in high production mode yet, but that expansion is coming. We need someone to help us create the rules, rigor, guidance, and processes so we can consistently replicate what we’re doing; create reporting, metrics and KPIs; look at how we’re spending our money and how we can continue to do it in an intelligent way; monitor efficiencies; and more.

In addition to maturing our Manufacturing and Finance processes, you’ll also build our Quality and Continuous Improvement programs, and work with HR, Facilities, Finance, and IT to set up a strong, company-wide operations structure. We have two main P&L centers: approximately 20% of our work is commercial, and the other 80% is government contracts, which have many more specific rules and regulations that need to be observed. If you don’t already have experience working in this type of environment, you’ll need to be a fast learner, with the rigor and detail-orientation to ensure we follow all appropriate rules.

In support of the above goals, some of your specific responsibilities will be to:
  • Work with the President/CTO and appropriate Board members to establish and communicate an effective corporate vision/mission, and align strategic objectives with regard to product maturation and customer identification.
  • Formulate and communicate priority focus initiatives for the business to allow for proper resource allocation, O&M and Capital Investments.
  • Establish an assessment process to continuously align/prioritize new business potentials based on ROI.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate identified growth objectives for the company.
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management to the engineering and manufacturing departments and Service organizations (IT, HR, Finance, Contracts).
  • Lead the development / maturation of the Quality Program and the Continuous Improvement organizations.
  • Maintain responsibility for the measurement and effectiveness of all internal and external processes and the establishment of KPIs.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating and financial condition of the company.
  • Work with the President/CTO to establish the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes, and to help support him as he leads the Engineering Department.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance management team; attract, recruit and retain required members of the leadership team; provide mentoring as a cornerstone to management career development.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.

Why Nuvotronics

Professional development -- we know you’ll bring a strong resumé with you, but you can expect to learn a lot in your first six months as you help us bring together the framework that will move us forward. And as we continue to develop new products and applications and technology, you’ll continue to grow right along with the rest of us.

Clear competitive edge -- our products are tiny, but our advantages are huge. Some companies have technology that is close, but in our sweet spots we beat everyone else hands down. The revolutionary PolyStrata process creates the first ever 3D AirCoax miniaturized microwave and millimeter-wave networks. The technology delivers a compact, densely packed footprint never before seen in defense and aerospace, including high isolation and “DC to daylight” broadband capability.

The spirit of innovation -- Nuvotronics values distinctive innovation, creating those one-of-a-kind products that set us apart from other technologies and businesses. We know the motivating force behind this inventive culture is our staff. You’ll be challenged to help us develop a stable framework to keep the innovative spirit strong as our products and technologies continue to evolve.

Great environment -- we’ve grown significantly since our founding, but you’ll still find a pioneering outlook at Nuvotronics; we combine the excitement of a start-up with the growing stability of a successful industry game-changer. There are a lot of smart people committed to shared goals.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and discretionary bonus, we offer comprehensive benefits, including health, dental and vision plans; flexible spending accounts; a 401(k) plan; a health savings account; a tuition and continuing education reimbursement program; generous paid time off, and more.

Pictured: We stack and pack adjacent layers of highly isolated coaxial transmission lines that have air as the dielectric. The center conductor is supported by dielectric straps that do not inhibit performance of the AirCoax line—from DC to beyond 200GHz. Lines can be as closely spaced as 250 microns. In addition to coax, we fab true waveguide architectures for very high frequency products.

Keys to Success

Our ideal candidate has already gone through this process, with experience transitioning from a start-up environment to a full production organization. We need someone with the maturity, skill, and experience to jump in with both feet and help guide us in terms of best practices. To excel here, you’ll already need to have plenty of ideas to help us reach our goals. We’re all ready to help make this happen, but we need a partner and a leader to help us get there.

You may run into people within the organization, just as you would anywhere, who are resistant to change. You’ll need to be skillful, with an understanding of how to navigate this in a respectful way while still helping us move forward.

About Nuvotronics

Nuvotronics Inc. is a small private high tech business. The business was established in 2008, commercializing its initial R&D success with its 3D microcoax technology at DARPA. A few seasoned entrepreneurs led an original small team with a vision to revolutionize microelectronics hardware through advanced manufacturing platforms like its PolyStrata® architecture. The company is managed and operated by those same entrepreneurs, with a powerful team for continuing the vision.

We solve problems for our customers by leveraging our high-density, low-loss, extremely broadband PolyStrata® architecture in modules for radars, sensors, and communications systems. Our clients face challenges in miniaturization of radar and sensors for small platforms such as unmanned systems or munitions. Some need to integrate high power through high-density, low-loss networks. Others need a platform for networking antennas, phase shifters and power amplifiers for complex systems such as phased arrays. In an industry hungry for innovative solutions, Nuvotronics delivers the ideal platform for integration to solve these customer needs.

Nuvotronics continues to invest in innovative technology, currently managing an extensive patent portfolio. The company has a proven track record of commercializing intellectual property through product development as well as through licensing arrangements.

Our 80,000 square feet of combined facility space offers state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing for its customers. We operate an 11,000 sq ft, 8-inch wafer cleanroom line in Durham NC, and our 6-inch wafer line operates out of our Radford VA site. Additional offices in Camarillo, CA and Woburn MA support our portfolio of design-to-delivery solutions, including a full suite of RF and mechanical 3D FEA simulation and design tools and an experienced staff of engineers. Multiple shift operations also include RF module assembly labs and test and VNA analysis to 110 GHz, power to 230 GHz.
